Conforme o coronavírus se espalhou pela Amazônia em março, a organização evangélica Missão Novas Tribos do Brazil começou a montar uma missão ao Vale do Javari, uma região remota perto da fronteira com o Peru onde habita a maior concentração de povos indígenas do mundo.
O Vaticano divulgou, no último sábado, 21 de setembro, a lista de todos os participantes da Assembleia do Sínodo dos Bispos para a Amazônia, que será realizado em Roma, entre os dias 6 e 27 de outubro. Ao todo, 118 brasileiros foram convocados pelo papa Francisco, incluindo o relator-geral, cardeal dom Cláudio Hummes, e um dos três presidentes-delegados, o cardeal dom João Braz de Aviz.

Esta ação está sendo feita em diversas cidades. As celebrações são uma forma de demonstrar, ecumenicamente, solidariedade com as comunidades da Amazônia; além de ser um chamado pela justiça.
Desde o dia 17 de outubro de 2019, até o fim de dezembro do mesmo ano, igrejas, comunidades e organizações baseadas na fé organizaram vigílias ecumênicas para orar pela Amazônia, seus povos e aqueles e aquelas capazes de influenciar o futuro da floresta. A ação marcou o lançamento público da declaração “Somos Amazônia”, assinada pelo FEACT, CONIC, Christian Aid, ISEAT (Bolívia) e Comissão Intereclesial de Justiça e Paz (Colômbia).
