Ecumenical and interreligious dialogue for the Amazon

The initiative Ecumenical and interreligious dialogue for the Amazon, coordinated by KOINONIA and CREAS (links below) aims to strengthen ecumenical an interreligious initiatives for human dignity in Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia and Peru, promoting shared analysis and joint actions.

Its objectives are:

  • To strengthen the joint action of Latin American ecumenical movement in defense of the Common Home and the dialogue with social movements, indigenous and quilombola organizations;
  • To denounce the violation of rights and threats suffered by traditional communities in the control over land and common goods;
  • To develop collective contextual analysis on the challenges to the work of nature and human rights defenders and the role of the ecumenical movement;
  • – To promote global solidarity with the challenges faced by Amazon peoples, convening churches and sister organizations in the Global North and South to pray and act;
  • To support the development of and ecological spirituality that helps us feel as part of the Common Home, all living world, in respect to all faith traditions

Coordinated by

KOINONIA Ecumenical Presence and Service is a Brazilian ecumenical organization with national and international work, funded in 1994 and composed by people of different religious traditions, gathered in civil association. KOINONIA’s mission is to mobilize ecumenical solidarity and services to historical and culturally vulnerable groups and promote the ecumenical movement and its egalitarian values.

CREAS is a regional, ecumenical and multidisciplinar organization of Christian orientation. Since 2000, works with cooperation, capacity building and knowledge production to generate and sustain transformation processes in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through strategic alliances, promotes active participation of civil society in processes of advocacy in favor of equality, based on the full exercise of rights.

CREAS and KOINONIA are members of ACT Alliance, a global coalition with more than 140 churches and faith based organizations, working together for humanitarian aid and development.
