KOINONIA works with three essential theme pillars for a just and inclusive society: Non-Denominational and Civil Society Movements, Rights of Traditional Black Communities and Overcoming Racism, and Gender, Sexual and Reproductive Rights.
On the first pillar, the organization addresses the rise of fundamentalism, aiming at a more resistant public presence, promoting forums and initiatives in the non-denominational movement, and contributing to the debate on the role of religions in the Brazilian context.
On the second pillar, it focuses on the Rights of Traditional Black Communities, with actions such as network strengthening, advocacy, qualification of leaderships, and production of knowledge, with the commitment of becoming an anti-racism organization.
On the third pillar, Gender, Sexual and Reproductive Rights, we focus on the fight to violence against women, offering qualification, creating listening spaces, producing informative material, and actively participating of public initiatives. On the LGBTQIA+ approach, the organization promotes qualification, advocacy in HIV-related issues, sensitization of religious communities, and aims at strengthening religious actions for inclusion, fighting to include the LGBTQIA+ agenda in the non-denominational movement.

The rise of fundamentalism boosts the need for a more robust and resistant public presence, both due to its religious dimension and the reduction of space from organized civil society.
On the non-denominational movement, challenges like weakened identity among religious Christian groups are faced, resulting in the frailty of ecumenical institutions nationally and internationally.
Simultaneously, the organization has increasingly be requested to publicly debate on the role of religions in the Brazilian social, political and environmental context. An opportunity to strengthen progressive voices in the religious arena, promote progressive non-denominational values, and contribute to more comprehensive initiatives, in partnership with social movements and political articulations.
KOINONIA focuses its activities on Traditional Black Communities (CNTs), prioritizing quilombola communities and African religion terreiros. Due to the rise of fundamentalism, there were significant reductions in public policies for these communities, as well as an increase in religious intolerance.
The organization aims at addressing these issues in the context of religious racism, including the racial and religious dimensions, aiming at fighting the denial of rights to these communities.
The current operation includes strengthening network actions, advocacy, qualification of community leaders, legal-administrative advisory, and production of knowledge about these themes. For the future, KOINONIA aims at being not only an organization that addresses the topic, but also an anti-racism organization.
The rise of fundamentalism in Brazil has led to setbacks in the rights of women and of the LGBTQIA+ community. It faces the challenge of discussing these issues in religious communities influenced by fundamentalist views.
Its operation encompasses the fight to violence against women, qualification of religious women in mechanisms of protection, creation of listening spaces, promotion of informational material about fighting gender-based violence, and participation in national and international advocacy initiatives.
On the LGBTQIA+ arena, it focuses on qualification of youngsters, public advocacy, sensitization of churches about health and sexuality issues, strengthening of religious actions for inclusion, and on the fight for including the LGBTQIA+ agenda in the non-denominational movement.

The internal dialogues reported earlier indicate an update of transverse themes, which are addressed by KOINONIA as those related to all institutional practices and their goals.
They are in themselves a criterion for permanent methodological monitoring. These are the transverse themes for the years of 2022 to 2027, formulated as imperative promotions of action: Anti-Racism, Anti-fundamentalist Ecumenism, and Gender Justice.
